Pia Wright
Italian Class of 2017
What was your major? Why did you choose it?
I chose to major in Italian because I had a hard time in college and wanted to focus on something I was passionate about.
What was your first job after graduation?
Working for UC Davis campus catering.
What are you up to now?
How did your experience at UC Davis prepare you for the next step in your academic and professional journey?
Being surrounded by the professors, lecturers, and other students in the Italian department helped me so much in understanding pursuing my passions. I felt supported by my department and truly was able to be myself and follow my dreams, and I still feel I am able to do that today because of those experiences.
What's your advice for someone considering your major?
Follow your passions! That is a much better gift to your future self than a degree you think will earn you more money or get you into a better grad school program. Truly, do what makes YOU happy.
What was your favorite part of your undergraduate program here?
Studying abroad in Florence, Italy- best 4 months of my life!
What are you most proud of from your undergrad experience?
Persevering. I dealt with a lot of health issues that were really scary during my undergraduate schooling, and I still managed to get my degree and even did pretty well!
Do you have a professor or a class you want to shout out?
Margherita Heyer-Caput- she was the backbone of the Italian department and a huge mentor, supporter, cheerleader, and more for all of us bambini.
