Italian Class of 2024
What was your major? Why did you choose it?
I was a Italian and Communication double major. I chose to study Italian initially because one year of foreign language studies were required of my communication major and because I had studied Italian prior. While following the Italian language courses I learned of a study abroad program that offered the opportunity for one to study and live in Florence. In the process of learning more about the program, I found that a majority of the required classes needed to fulfill the Italian major would be satisfied. This led me to take the opportunity to study abroad, pursue Italian as an area of study, and to deepen my knowledge about Italian history, culture, and language.
What was your first job after graduation?
My first job after graduating was as a barista. After graduating, I decided to take a gap year and explore things I might like!
What are you up to now?
I am currently studying at Pepperdine, and I am in my second year as a graduate student in their Clinical Psychology program. I am pursuing my degree in Clinical Psychology and am studying to be a marriage and family therapist.
What's your advice for someone considering your major?
If presented with an opportunity to study abroad, take it!! Living in a city where culture is different than the one you are familiar with might allow you to develop a more inquisitive and curious nature (both of which are arguably influential in learning!)
What was your favorite part of your undergraduate program here?
My favorite parts of the UC Davis undergraduate program were the amount of opportunities presented to connect with others. Whether it was a club, an extra credit opportunity, or simply just a chance to gather, those in the Italian department worked hard to create opportunities for students and professors to connect over the Italian language, culture, and history.
Do you have a professor or a class you want to shout out?
Thank you so much to Professor Grossi for being such an encouraging teacher. I never would have realized my love for history or travel without your influence! I hope that you are enjoying your well deserved retirement very much. Thank you also to Professor Delmolino for keeping your students accountable, and for encouraging your students to express their perspectives on class content. By following your example I was able to realize the importance of putting my best efforts into my work.
