Professor Margherita Heyer-Caput Receives Honorary Membership to American Association of Teachers of Italian (AATI)

At this year's annual conference of the American Association of Teachers of Italian (AATI) held at the University of Cagliari in Cagliari, Italy, our own Professor Margherita Heyer-Caput was awarded with the AATI Honorary Membership. She was presented the membership plaque by Professor Salvatore Bancheri, Chair of the Department of Italian Studies at the University of Toronto and President Emeritus of the AATI. In announcing the honor, he read the text of the plaque: "The American Association of Teachers of Italian awards to Margherita Heyer-Caput Honorary Membership of the AATI for her indelible contribution to the field of Italian and, in particular, of Italian-American Studies in North America." Upon receiving the honor, Professor Heyer-Caput delivered the event's keynote address.

The American Association of Teachers of Italian was founded in 1924 to promote the study of Italian language, literature, and culture in schools, colleges and universities in North America. The AATI publishes the quarterly journal, Italica, and a twice-yearly newsletter. It is dedicated to excellence in teaching and research in all areas of Italian studies.
